I immediately thought...I get to make dresses!!! I started pattern shopping and settled on this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAeO3rhcJvEsBVqHHZLkas596KIc_1vAtIO_uyEnuhnOgtHYaK7wgZQApRFIV0PK0fLe8EBfGL3KyRa_n6fXFTFmdGy8SKScJmn_AnifPToWDmtES9eD5V4vLEc5eNwiJ4EDOTkPyuSB9/s1600/M7037_front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAeO3rhcJvEsBVqHHZLkas596KIc_1vAtIO_uyEnuhnOgtHYaK7wgZQApRFIV0PK0fLe8EBfGL3KyRa_n6fXFTFmdGy8SKScJmn_AnifPToWDmtES9eD5V4vLEc5eNwiJ4EDOTkPyuSB9/s1600/M7037_front.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided to do view C and D.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The baby shower was yesterday (Saturday) and I just got started Thursday...thank God for the snow day! I started view C first, but realized I did not have enough tulle. The package says you need 72" tulle, but I had 52". (As an aside, I don't think I've ever seen 72" fabric.) I ended up being just short one pattern piece and because it was snowing hard outside, I could not run back out to get more fabric. I did as much as I could do and then switched to view D. I encountered the same problem with the tulle so I decided to just make a simple overlay using this purple sparkly giraffe tulle:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since I was on a time crunch, I omitted the flower also:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Friday after work, I raced to the fabric store to get more fabric for view C. Came home and got to work. To my horror, after I cut out the new tulle, sewed it together and tried gathering it, I realized it was way to much fabric. It was as tight as I could make it and it was still twice the size of the skirt. (When I was cutting it out the first time, I thought this really seems like way too much fabric for a newborn dress, but I followed the pattern anyway). After panicking for a few minutes, I decided to cut off the access. This is how much I cut:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
View C</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Without the extra tulle the skirt is still very full and in my opinion bulky at the waist. I hope it doesn't bother the baby.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love these dresses!!!! I can't wait to get pics of the baby wearing them. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also decided to do a bear rug (McCall's 6719) because that's my new go to gift. Here it is:</div>

Months ago, my cousin, who is getting married next month, asked if I would make her daughter's flower girl dress. Of course I said yes and was so excited to do it...until she showed me what she wanted. This is the inspiration dress:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPScayaNc6VGkRziScRIjPps3_z-VALWr8axB3lhLg-cAwQTbQaSeojXubmlpObkNSPXszgkFOOZUSmO99Afxf1QhGHb2LRay1-l3eL90dUeDJCAfPdzrxkOT25C9faYJnOoCbqavclqUg/s1600/fascinating-a-line-clearance-first-communion-dresses-with-corset-closure_1358422852689.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPScayaNc6VGkRziScRIjPps3_z-VALWr8axB3lhLg-cAwQTbQaSeojXubmlpObkNSPXszgkFOOZUSmO99Afxf1QhGHb2LRay1-l3eL90dUeDJCAfPdzrxkOT25C9faYJnOoCbqavclqUg/s1600/fascinating-a-line-clearance-first-communion-dresses-with-corset-closure_1358422852689.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
To say that I was intimidated would be an understatement. I had serious misgivings, but my cousin was confident I could do it. As the months passed, I looked at several patterns to figure out how I was going to make this in a 2T and I googled how to make cascading ruffles. My biggest concern was how to enclose the raw edge of the chiffon on the side that would be attached to the skirt. I finally found this <a href="http://www.lilblueboo.com/2011/09/cascading-ruffle-skirt-a-tutorial-and-free-download.html" target="_blank">blog</a> that provided the inspiration for the solution to my problem. I bought several patterns, but finally settled on these three:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvpin82pYptPVyIsNvKOhBNEA2zyLdLSJTZ-7nlP-v2x0RY_hxnv5XHoknsG4wy8b0SdiajyCbizJLmeSQORC_gYnsvXSDtci30_VPhbyUc4ApDqEgxOVTixY-TmKmH5eRDEXnFNlclMzg/s1600/B3350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvpin82pYptPVyIsNvKOhBNEA2zyLdLSJTZ-7nlP-v2x0RY_hxnv5XHoknsG4wy8b0SdiajyCbizJLmeSQORC_gYnsvXSDtci30_VPhbyUc4ApDqEgxOVTixY-TmKmH5eRDEXnFNlclMzg/s1600/B3350.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Butterick 3350 for the base of the dress (I did view F for a sweetheart neckline)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Butterick 4967 for the ruffle (I used a trimmed down pattern piece 10)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started with making the skirt. For the the ruffles, I narrow hemmed the ends:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCN6pU7PGqMkPbZcNHV3ZTtf3qR1MbrxZFm9qiovaRFFRf61lVH7nZ8D02zL_9xfPuTZHhY1bYzOg0VXNVXLrMDe86PSMcIqoKYCMp-o1E89HuEmXuRuHXS1japwI7NjCQMf7zm0btYnKz/s1600/20140810_190741-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCN6pU7PGqMkPbZcNHV3ZTtf3qR1MbrxZFm9qiovaRFFRf61lVH7nZ8D02zL_9xfPuTZHhY1bYzOg0VXNVXLrMDe86PSMcIqoKYCMp-o1E89HuEmXuRuHXS1japwI7NjCQMf7zm0btYnKz/s1600/20140810_190741-1.jpg" height="143" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
then I used satin bias tape to enclose the outside raw edges. Next, I made markings about an inch from the back edge of the skirt and I pinned the raw edge of the ruffle to the markings on the skirt, stretching as I pinned:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7NsghPGdF6lMauxVVfzD4Wfhj7v-o1DIYn6DZDZh6hOv1lJZLD-lXteqO16F20bobM1YzRy80LOq1J_Y0xpJusvR6d5GRMrI_1WTapVSve-TkvKyfsd9FjfxqFsGjKq_OrFo_NO-1Fji/s1600/20140810_155235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn7NsghPGdF6lMauxVVfzD4Wfhj7v-o1DIYn6DZDZh6hOv1lJZLD-lXteqO16F20bobM1YzRy80LOq1J_Y0xpJusvR6d5GRMrI_1WTapVSve-TkvKyfsd9FjfxqFsGjKq_OrFo_NO-1Fji/s1600/20140810_155235.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After sewing the ruffle in place, I folded the ruffle over the stitch, pinned it in place, and sewed it again, making sure the raw edge was now enclosed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXdg66YtWnM_JeHZcGfGnZNlwo73VA2DdHWCeQcU8jPyrM1sk4eEcm9VpnvVOKp4_o1_NmV_1LfpTCTf3n0Fgaw_MCv8Wv9U-s5V8bAZSpXHrB3poRwiDbOdHGqNA6gOJ5tWbpXwuV-zu6/s1600/20140810_155913.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXdg66YtWnM_JeHZcGfGnZNlwo73VA2DdHWCeQcU8jPyrM1sk4eEcm9VpnvVOKp4_o1_NmV_1LfpTCTf3n0Fgaw_MCv8Wv9U-s5V8bAZSpXHrB3poRwiDbOdHGqNA6gOJ5tWbpXwuV-zu6/s1600/20140810_155913.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then measured 2 3/4 inches from the sewn ruffle to make markings for the next ruffle and repeated the process. I did this until the skirt was covered in ruffles. 26 in total!! However, not every row was 2 3/4 inches apart. I varied from 2-3 inches. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If I were ever going to make this again (which is extremely doubtful), I think I could get away with making them 4 inches apart because the skirt is gathered. Gathering the skirt was very difficult because of the bulk and because I used a heavy stretch satin. My gathering stitches kept popping which was extremely annoying! Anyway, all the hard work paid off as the dress came together rather nicely:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I seriously underestimated the amount of time it would take me to make this. Cutting out the dress, not including the lining or the sash, plus making 5 ruffles took me the better part of one day. Another day, I enlisted the help of another cousin to cut out the lining, sash, and more ruffles and to help me pin the satin binding to the edges. I worked on this several evenings after work, then one Friday evening from about 8pm until 7am the next day, plus an additional couple of hours the next day to put in the zipper and hem the dress. If you attempt this, I suggest giving yourself a month (unless you don't work full time).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I mailed the dress to my cousin as soon as I finished so we could see if it fits (given the timing, there is no time for a plan b). She loves it, but it does need altering. The flower girl is big for her age so I made a 2T as requested although she's only 15 mos old. The dress is a little snug in the stomach and a little too big up top. This should be easy enough to fix and I'll update the photos once it's done...after the wedding. In the meantime, this is what it looks like now:</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I purchased this pattern a long time ago and have just been waiting for the right fabric/occasion to make it. When I got my ticket for a white Memorial Day Play Date (game night + concert for adults), I decided I would make this in white denim. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My version:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht4CSNCFhGgGIHIKWoLs7gwaFwiKyzcRyEk3jXZJVBTb9AR1W6XRyWvJGXYpag7K5TveK2a6ywa0_DCshcjx65x-WI7t-bljRdGfJiTLpQknCrSE7DGFkmZe_VKtx_ngPEGv3luc9Qh34S/s1600/SDC14190.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht4CSNCFhGgGIHIKWoLs7gwaFwiKyzcRyEk3jXZJVBTb9AR1W6XRyWvJGXYpag7K5TveK2a6ywa0_DCshcjx65x-WI7t-bljRdGfJiTLpQknCrSE7DGFkmZe_VKtx_ngPEGv3luc9Qh34S/s1600/SDC14190.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(It looks really good with this necklace)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">(I forgot to take pics at the event, but I wore it to work.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This very easy straightforward dress ended up taking me over 12 hours to make. First, I must not have been paying attention when I purchased the fabric because I did not have enough. I was making this dress the day before the event so I did not want to waste time going back to the fabric store. Luckily, I had just enough eyelet scraps to make it work. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjViO5Qwb5HvbHvDMBu_5E0912FrxSnOD0fWrfYdh6JcqlFtmP5TiSBPNuqupn724qmMtmYe8Bjkkq1NaCfI9sJcu_dJIRiKUDRzWeDubUcyAZHEKpqrAERALd1DbAcWn2g1M2oBa0F6BML/s1600/SDC14191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjViO5Qwb5HvbHvDMBu_5E0912FrxSnOD0fWrfYdh6JcqlFtmP5TiSBPNuqupn724qmMtmYe8Bjkkq1NaCfI9sJcu_dJIRiKUDRzWeDubUcyAZHEKpqrAERALd1DbAcWn2g1M2oBa0F6BML/s1600/SDC14191.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then when I was constructing the skirt, I noticed I cut the skirt too close to the edge of the fabric. The ridges of the edge were visible and too wide to be hidden in the seam allowance. To hide it, I ran black binding underneath the zipper extending all the way down to the hem of the dress. If I had a long enough zipper in stock, I would've done that instead, but I had to work with what I had.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjie5AdAFu1lAvDXynSaliEz9lWIwTVRYLtbUn99JtIhG0OwvaUIWCVYqT5N1CLE8sa__YJTnEqFZIRD92VdNCw85XzZTea7DSxnJSk2-C_X5KJW6cCo4f-Hh_7-sWz8FoUQWyYAGzf7Wuo/s1600/SDC14203.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjie5AdAFu1lAvDXynSaliEz9lWIwTVRYLtbUn99JtIhG0OwvaUIWCVYqT5N1CLE8sa__YJTnEqFZIRD92VdNCw85XzZTea7DSxnJSk2-C_X5KJW6cCo4f-Hh_7-sWz8FoUQWyYAGzf7Wuo/s1600/SDC14203.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really wanted to add pockets, but since I was running low on time, I didn't do it. Next time, I will add pockets and make a size smaller...the bodice bunches in the chest area.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Well a year later, I decided to make her one. So for her 30th birthday/thank you for being so awesome gift, I decided to make her Simplicity 2250:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF-5VS5KXqWbwjl2kbrgn5wHY_Qw4wi-f3SbMXP6r3-TQNNZuNmNx95SXEDpgbKDdkh1c5ix9doWzPqKcjbMsVUACRx_fmbUvMSofGr8qQK0dtZkumNTC_aeR9SJdnGZOSX1RL5ZeP9BBn/s1600/2250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF-5VS5KXqWbwjl2kbrgn5wHY_Qw4wi-f3SbMXP6r3-TQNNZuNmNx95SXEDpgbKDdkh1c5ix9doWzPqKcjbMsVUACRx_fmbUvMSofGr8qQK0dtZkumNTC_aeR9SJdnGZOSX1RL5ZeP9BBn/s1600/2250.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's my version:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR7qbs3C4HDHncIN4O7gLuBrnJM_1qSaXIaCFrBt67_ahv5AO-l3-ppm3o_V4ajNsYaIb0lMz1dqy57_C20mIe1PMCe7LVLOBr8K1qzyLEM2wpbs4U8JywzJg7gOhH_RViEea0JGPsMJH0/s1600/Andrea+Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR7qbs3C4HDHncIN4O7gLuBrnJM_1qSaXIaCFrBt67_ahv5AO-l3-ppm3o_V4ajNsYaIb0lMz1dqy57_C20mIe1PMCe7LVLOBr8K1qzyLEM2wpbs4U8JywzJg7gOhH_RViEea0JGPsMJH0/s1600/Andrea+Collage.jpg" height="269" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is by far the most difficult project I've done. I was very surprised because it looks like such a simple dress...well, looks were definitely deceiving! This took me a few days to complete...I thought it would take 1, at most 1 1/2. The bodice alone took me like 2/3 of a day to complete. This is because I did mess up the pleats and had to rip stitches probably twice. Also, I was originally going to make spaghetti straps. After spending 2 1/2 hours trying to turn one strap right side out and still only getting it halfway done, I gave up. Luckily, I still had enough fabric to make the larger straps. All the pleats were a bit confusing, but all in all not too bad. I think it would've been much easier if I picked a fabric I could actually see my markings on!!</div>
<br />
She loves it!!:<br />

The past couple of weeks have been so cold (wind chill below zero), I decided it was finally time I tried to make some pants in order to stay warm. I wanted an easy pattern for my first attempt so I went with Vogue 2923:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPvhYdjZWz9tsjq73o_a2gSW28_v5fNf28oQ4NaJOEGkze4g5eUb1h-LioK5rb-k0KfQnLWpJUzEqc478E6NNFZ96TYMjA1WsHZUS6gIc4fG2b1_50ulYLb6a_wvImoSsoSh79pBv1hy2t/s1600/V2923.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPvhYdjZWz9tsjq73o_a2gSW28_v5fNf28oQ4NaJOEGkze4g5eUb1h-LioK5rb-k0KfQnLWpJUzEqc478E6NNFZ96TYMjA1WsHZUS6gIc4fG2b1_50ulYLb6a_wvImoSsoSh79pBv1hy2t/s1600/V2923.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had some brown suiting in my stash for a long time so I got to work. The pattern was very quick and easy. My only qualm, is that the pattern is really just for coca cola bottle shaped women. After I cut out the pieces I realized the pants were not going to fit my waist. I couldn't re-cut the pieces b/c I barely had enough fabric to cut it the first time, and I don't know how to alter waists (I really need to take a course on pattern alterations). I ended up just sewing it with as little seam allowance as I could and they just fit! The effect - which may in part be attributable to the fabric - is a tummy control pant, which I love! To be fair, the package does say that this pattern is not for boxy shapes...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRfWJCp5MJ_G6G6ROP-ABS1N2wad2sc3-Z-Vig2kj7MQHEiF5yivFvdGjUQEc2ifDiWL-VgXzshFfswsxyJJEgZ3gskXnysQRSE_NcO69DBzxVgXwOTwr5AYtEyJet_JkSaJpciJuKLw0w/s1600/20140130_211802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRfWJCp5MJ_G6G6ROP-ABS1N2wad2sc3-Z-Vig2kj7MQHEiF5yivFvdGjUQEc2ifDiWL-VgXzshFfswsxyJJEgZ3gskXnysQRSE_NcO69DBzxVgXwOTwr5AYtEyJet_JkSaJpciJuKLw0w/s1600/20140130_211802.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
...but I thought that only applied to the jacket. I was wrong. All in all, I am happy with the pants. I did make one mistake...I ironed the pleats on the wrong side! lol...oh well</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I still have to put a hook and eye in them. I know I have a lot, but I can't find them and I refuse to buy more!)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRprIXFUqGZzD8qKPVh4tJDNobsfxHobNFwlv0y8zkfNC1XYpG7P2YR89dv5KWnss8ORXprN7GherbXLcD8Sap-7G6XHq31xqVuf_TQttecqBuJa7HmFpEF3fkJA_gD9y642vgQ5jdzdza/s1600/20140130_211444.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRprIXFUqGZzD8qKPVh4tJDNobsfxHobNFwlv0y8zkfNC1XYpG7P2YR89dv5KWnss8ORXprN7GherbXLcD8Sap-7G6XHq31xqVuf_TQttecqBuJa7HmFpEF3fkJA_gD9y642vgQ5jdzdza/s1600/20140130_211444.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I like the wide leg look. But, now I know I have to be careful wearing these. I wore them last week and was running up the escalator at the metro when my foot got stuck in the pant leg and I fell! Luckily, no serious injuries and my pants are unharmed! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I will probably make these again...just in a bigger size.</div>

<br />
After seeing the bear playmat I made for a coworker using McCall's 6719, a colleague asked if I could make her a ladybug. I knew the pattern had a ladybug option, but also knew the ladybug from the pattern looks nothing like a ladybug. see exhibit A:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCy2CkFyZBGca4t1VcQwX50ZjT7egGrukd1JtLE6nuxfpa1rXtC3FrdJzP41Tpehm7A7SfudZa3ykTh9ainLTjedBUHyqDxYiVa2f6GK7x0U2i2MMxlIi9jjiG2nasr54xdsbgJu1DvlVg/s1600/M6719.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCy2CkFyZBGca4t1VcQwX50ZjT7egGrukd1JtLE6nuxfpa1rXtC3FrdJzP41Tpehm7A7SfudZa3ykTh9ainLTjedBUHyqDxYiVa2f6GK7x0U2i2MMxlIi9jjiG2nasr54xdsbgJu1DvlVg/s320/M6719.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I agreed to make her a ladybug knowing I would have to do some modifications to the pattern, but thought it wouldn't be that difficult.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used the head, body, face, and antennae from the pattern (view A). I also used the heart applique from the bear. I made the wings using the body pattern piece, but cutting it into a full circle and then cutting the circle in half. I spent some time searching everywhere for my protractor to make perfect circles and after I found it and cut out all my circles, I realized the size I chose was the exact size as the cheeks, so if I ever make this again, I'll just trace the cheeks on webbing. I added jumbo rick rack along the edges to give it a little something extra. I drafted my own legs on parchment paper:</div>

This time, I'm lightening up the color scheme. <br />

Back view</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This dress was a lot more work than it looks. From the pictures on the envelope, I could not tell that the front overlay is open on the sides. I also assumed that the overlay on view A was really just the dress such that there weren't multiple layers, but not so. For all views, the bodice actually has 3 layers! I completely wasn't paying attention to that when I bought the pattern, so I ended up having to go back to the fabric store to purchase lining...and then I had to go back again for the right size zipper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This style of dress is my favorite...I love drop-waisted blousy dresses because they hide everything, but I think this one isn't particularly flattering because the overlay is open on the sides. I just feel really big in this...like football player big. If I ever make this again, I'll sew the sides of the overlay closed. I think I'll end up tacking under the arms so that it's at least a little more fitted in the bust. Sadly, just as I was finishing up the dress trimming frayed edges, I accidentally cut a hole in the front! It's small so I sewed it closed, but it's still visible. I think once I tack under the arms, the hole will be under the arm so it won't be a complete disaster.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, piece one is done. I also plan on making a suit and another top to complete my wardrobe. I'll update this page as I complete my pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5J9AkDyalHYKXFl1EFR40n6-vY2jj2c0sfe7bkgs2f3xB4BIWQYh-Y0rIIVRQhmQdPenCjet6AxABvAPpVdhQHJKIKEjYaiKCEWe5pdD1OcwZwC5qniejc42uCE1mTfLlVqu4i4Tm-qe3/s1600/1052746_651160974912954_412051303_o.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5J9AkDyalHYKXFl1EFR40n6-vY2jj2c0sfe7bkgs2f3xB4BIWQYh-Y0rIIVRQhmQdPenCjet6AxABvAPpVdhQHJKIKEjYaiKCEWe5pdD1OcwZwC5qniejc42uCE1mTfLlVqu4i4Tm-qe3/s320/1052746_651160974912954_412051303_o.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For months I've been planning on making her a quilt, but I just can't seem to get going on that project. In the meantime, I decided to make her a dress. Since this is my first attempt at making something so small, I decided to go with an "easy" pattern - McCall's 6015:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SteUn9_4hARB1meBT_05aQXDyLZlJFihaVAB1yeEcnKG69EEWFpMBMBwNtlabrlhZf6NslNY33bIFS-nsUSjAc5hH0gVKuNu01JF4EO74Y4DC6yjZ8qsoF759JaSdkdLWKWsp9AuqlZN/s1600/M6015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SteUn9_4hARB1meBT_05aQXDyLZlJFihaVAB1yeEcnKG69EEWFpMBMBwNtlabrlhZf6NslNY33bIFS-nsUSjAc5hH0gVKuNu01JF4EO74Y4DC6yjZ8qsoF759JaSdkdLWKWsp9AuqlZN/s320/M6015.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's my version:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZwu8rPHtbqyMVAFfAqpGSe-h7NsRKbtyiImcWUTraNwjD9ZjYD0_dFHpi06th_JuC3tJdBJaZIrJvJ0tqcgpYu9ygeGUMOwe5UJul4IweBkFYlvG46DPpr9LKz-XN3SdEt-Fdclpwuies/s1600/Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZwu8rPHtbqyMVAFfAqpGSe-h7NsRKbtyiImcWUTraNwjD9ZjYD0_dFHpi06th_JuC3tJdBJaZIrJvJ0tqcgpYu9ygeGUMOwe5UJul4IweBkFYlvG46DPpr9LKz-XN3SdEt-Fdclpwuies/s320/Collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's not perfect, but it's pretty good if I say so myself. :)<br />
<br />
<b>Design changes</b>:<br />
I completely enclosed the zipper...the pattern only has it enclosed on the bodice. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw0daYlFXdwhqmnRBVxNKNJpL2lLpNsRXgQE8Zh6M2OSnolGj4gvHoQLElX7FPlVwy3K8Op4-GozGQgPjwoeN-Mb4H8kHlgWMsuj3cC72mSAse3uo9sXH7JT_x6mwF1PMskDWHPhDEvvYx/s1600/Collage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw0daYlFXdwhqmnRBVxNKNJpL2lLpNsRXgQE8Zh6M2OSnolGj4gvHoQLElX7FPlVwy3K8Op4-GozGQgPjwoeN-Mb4H8kHlgWMsuj3cC72mSAse3uo9sXH7JT_x6mwF1PMskDWHPhDEvvYx/s320/Collage2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I also added a lace overlay to make it dressier. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Originally, I planned to use this as the overlay:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2B5NyB3s5cjyijtDtHnW-DkZH_maEj8bmya-h5sW13epQ2jxmx_-TIDzXAYS2qAQmXoiAaDoTlM6yZ9YjAuCrztbA0jSDqQToHOZp8JA-Lu1RYgkQ4utQGp9M5iKonrmzCKUr3dQRaWh/s1600/20130706_110037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2B5NyB3s5cjyijtDtHnW-DkZH_maEj8bmya-h5sW13epQ2jxmx_-TIDzXAYS2qAQmXoiAaDoTlM6yZ9YjAuCrztbA0jSDqQToHOZp8JA-Lu1RYgkQ4utQGp9M5iKonrmzCKUr3dQRaWh/s320/20130706_110037.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
..but it was just too bulky to work with. <br />
<br />
I went back to the fabric store and got this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqycJuPIKjk3QAjrWF1KHJv3hVkmfrLQEph5jgMquP2FtwypJXZfEXseKCxJxLvTaUzQy2VMO4ovDitSBdxMkvkhz01O5_qz_yaHIzdHxPJYS5c24KoE0glLf-lOR7wZv7yOF-R706vYlN/s1600/xprd12028668_m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqycJuPIKjk3QAjrWF1KHJv3hVkmfrLQEph5jgMquP2FtwypJXZfEXseKCxJxLvTaUzQy2VMO4ovDitSBdxMkvkhz01O5_qz_yaHIzdHxPJYS5c24KoE0glLf-lOR7wZv7yOF-R706vYlN/s1600/xprd12028668_m.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
...which was much much easier to work with. <br />
I also made bias tape out of the fabric remnants to enclose the raw edges of the lace:<br />

This is my second time making this dress. This time I put darts in the bust to make it fitted. Also, as much as I love pockets, I omitted them in an effort to save time and get more dresses done.<br />

The plan is to make a bunch of dresses and right now I'm only about half of the way done. Progress so far:<br />

<br />
I dropped the waist by about an inch and a half because when I cut out the pattern pieces, it didn't look like it was going to hit where I wanted it. I dropped it a little too much though. I also completely enclosed the elastic in the waist and added a faux drawstring. Lastly, I used bias tape for the armholes and neck line...Don't know why (maybe the bias tape is too heavy for the material), but the neckline and armholes are really droopy. I'll have to wear a camisole under it.<br />

I wanted a short loose dress for the beach. I thought this fabric would be perfect and it is, but since it's tissue thin, I had to line it. I did the ruffle sleeve so it wouldn't be so blah. I love it! Although I could've made a size smaller. <br />

In addition, I'm almost finished another dress (I have to get lining for the skirt and add a zipper), I've started a maxi skirt, bought a pattern for a top to go with the skirt and have 2 other dresses I'd like to get done (but probably won't).....aijuswannasewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10651246883033469951noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3103581942668124039.post-77268626464261530082013-05-25T18:39:00.002-04:002013-05-30T12:47:06.857-04:00Natural Fibers Contest Entry<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a while since I've entered one of patternreview's contest so since I've been purchasing cotton "African" prints from G Street, I thought I'd make something and enter. I decided to make Simplicity 1607...a pattern I've been itching to make since I first saw it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This dress was tedious to make. The straps are super complicated and the instructions are not that clear. Luckily, the pictures are, but it takes a lot of studying. I thought I had them down and when it came time to pin my strap facings to the straps, I realized I sewed one strap together wrong and one facing wrong. Additionally, either the fabric cutter was way generous or the pattern tells you you need a lot more fabric than you actually do. I have just under a yard left! Finally, this pattern required custom fitting...which I pretty much figured beforehand, but apparently, I didn't do a good enough job guestimating. I cut different sizes for the bodice, midriff, and yoke, knowing I'd need a bigger size in the middle. Now that the dress is done I see I should've cut the bodice smaller at the top half and gradually cut it to a larger size closer to the midriff. Now, I'll have to do some adjusting since the bodice is too big...maybe some extra darts might take care of the problem. This dress requires a lot of handwork as well and I hate slipstitching! Anyway, I'm glad it's over (aside from adjusting the bust) and can't wait to wear it. </div>

one thing I noticed when I just tried this on and sat down...the girls are on display!!...yikes! Once I put extra darts I think it might help a bit, but this is not a modest neckline at all. <br />
<br />
<br />
... I'll update the pics when I get someone else to take pics.<br />

UPDATE 5/30:<br />
<br />
I fixed the bust!:<br />

<br />
<br />
It looks ugly on the inside now, but at least the girls are inside! :) As suspected however, they are still on display, just not full display as before...hence my camisole under it to make it work appropriate. Also, for some reason now the bra straps show.<br />

I've recently purchased a bunch of skirt patterns and now that it looks like the warm weather is here to stay, it's time to make more skirts! </div>
<br />
First up, McCall's 6471 (view D):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5V76BCMRdxBcfiKfiDoGje7zbJq81P3CJZOYxMR_-JlIW5YQRmFVw_Q799xdGri9BNZu5TQ6fVQTmoZ5hDva7bA29PjpM48oiBocDG7HqXPLNKx9qldff-I4I7AytG_EPx2BBByz1EOCj/s1600/M6471.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5V76BCMRdxBcfiKfiDoGje7zbJq81P3CJZOYxMR_-JlIW5YQRmFVw_Q799xdGri9BNZu5TQ6fVQTmoZ5hDva7bA29PjpM48oiBocDG7HqXPLNKx9qldff-I4I7AytG_EPx2BBByz1EOCj/s320/M6471.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was going through my fabric stash and decided the remaining fabric from my Barrister's Ball dress last year would be perfect for this pattern. Here it is:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldUb78M3dK2mYWw8uAX9tJUWV7eWp2Yo8ILoiLsqldGpF3f4sxzr6WAXlAQU-seEGxsssXIf9uroQGcKRz0yR23AdLgf4ENMG_kJQsRk31r1f1cKemN50GfUbYqWlrNz9MfLbk_SAj3OQ/s1600/SDC13999.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjldUb78M3dK2mYWw8uAX9tJUWV7eWp2Yo8ILoiLsqldGpF3f4sxzr6WAXlAQU-seEGxsssXIf9uroQGcKRz0yR23AdLgf4ENMG_kJQsRk31r1f1cKemN50GfUbYqWlrNz9MfLbk_SAj3OQ/s320/SDC13999.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My ruffle is on the wrong side because of the way I had to cut the fabric to keep the border at the bottom. Due to the way I cut out the fabric, I almost made a very big mistake...the left front was backwards when I went to pin it together! Luckily, I had just enough to cut another piece out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, after I cut out the pieces I realized that the copyright text would show. Since I had no more fabric to spare, I decided to make a black stripe down the side using bias tape to cover the text. I think it works and it's not too obvious:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX-EcC1yJXhU8S119KlqnVwIwJnVzkeCDHRwnEbEZj1IyoTWsIg2eDUNjSci9e266qugxkW2gga9pRA8I6AJT_ZPbBxY-yZJP2CLzuVXutuCXeJJVIW3IY1CX2DOMXRJjSmPFHIfJxe798/s1600/SDC14006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX-EcC1yJXhU8S119KlqnVwIwJnVzkeCDHRwnEbEZj1IyoTWsIg2eDUNjSci9e266qugxkW2gga9pRA8I6AJT_ZPbBxY-yZJP2CLzuVXutuCXeJJVIW3IY1CX2DOMXRJjSmPFHIfJxe798/s320/SDC14006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had the same problem as I had the last time I made a skirt...I needed to extend the waistband. This time, because the waistband is a yoke, it's visible, but fortunately, it's not too visible probably due to the pattern of the fabric.</div>
<br />
Love this skirt!<br />
<br />
UPDATE (5/20): Wore the skirt to work today:<br />

I was instantly inspired by all the beautiful ensembles. G Street is the only fabric store nearby that sells a decent selection of African prints and since last week G Street was selling $50 vouchers for $25 on Living Social, of course I had to buy one. I put fabric on hold there two weeks ago during their coupon sale, but didn't go back for it (because they only let you use one coupon per customer per day and I already went 2 days in a row!). Luckily, it was still on hold so I was able to get my fabric after all. :)<br />
<br />
Additionally, Joann had Simplicity patterns on sale for 5 for $5 and because Joann and G Street are in the same shopping center, I hit them up too (ok, even if Joann was not in the same shopping center, I still would've gone). <br />
<br />
I made Simplicity 1690:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I used French seams and used the border to bind the edges of the zipper. I like how it looks:<br />

All in all, the skirt came out ok, but it was a pain to get it done. First, as I was cutting out the pieces, it looked to me like the waistband was going to be way too small, but I ignored my alarm bell and sure enough, once I sewed it on, I realized it was not going to work. There was a gap bigger than my hand! I almost put the skirt aside right then, but then thought about how excited I was to get my fabric (it was the last piece) and how it would be such a waste. I decided I could fix it without completely taking it apart. I removed the stitches from the top half of the zipper and a couple of inches of the waistband and skirt. I cut a piece of fabric about 10 inches long - yes 10 inches - which I cut in half and then added to both ends of the waistband, sewed the waistband back to the skirt and then sewed the zipper back in. Then I tried it on to find that now it was too big! I repeated the above process but this time to cut off about an inch from both sides. Then I sewed it all back together again and it was still too big! I repeated the process, but this time cutting off about 1/2 an inch from each side and it fits! (Now that I'm thinking of it, I could've probably just added belt loops instead of taking it apart another time, but oh well...it's done now.) <br />
<br />
Additionally, because I like to make things harder for myself, I didn't fuse interfacing to the waistband because in the beginning I suspected it was going to be too small and thought the interfacing would make it worse. Once I made it too big, I realized I really needed the interfacing so I actually fused it after the last fix, meaning after I sewed everything back in place. I don't recommend doing this...it was not fun.<br />
<br />
Anyway, after all my troubles I think I'm mostly happy with it though I'm not sure I like the fabric anymore...lol. I will still wear it though once it warms up again. <br />
<br />
I should've purchased more than one voucher...<br />
<br />
UPDATE<br />
<br />
I wore the skirt to work today!:<br />

<br />
Both were very easy to construct. However, sewing them confirmed that I really need to take a basics course. I had a hard time with the fabric and it may just be that I know nothing about what kind of needle you should use for different fabrics and what settings you should use. I generally use the same settings (although this time I put both on 2 and it seemed to work better) and always just use the same needle for everything. Something wasn't working for these dresses. I had to sew every seam about three times (sometimes more) because the stitches kept skipping and sometimes it wouldn't catch at all till I tried 4 or 5 times! It ended up taking me a lot longer to complete these. Anyway, I assume if you use the right needle, etc these dresses should be very quick projects. They're perfect for spring/summer.<br />
<br />
...Hopefully they fit!aijuswannasewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10651246883033469951noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3103581942668124039.post-9688508877021824252013-04-27T14:44:00.000-04:002013-04-27T14:44:30.411-04:00So many projects, so little time...I just realized this week that Mother's Day is around the corner and I hadn't planned anything. I remembered that I do have fabric and I have a bunch of patterns, so dresses it is! I think my mom gave me this a year ago to make her something with so I'll use it to make Simplicity 1804: <br />

On top of gifts for mom, I just started cutting out the pieces for McCall's 6721 <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7KJG-Qn74410LDLJqj8dY-RhyphenhyphenBg_jTpkQTZuSy08GqcUl-J43LONo0wzK4M5TS7DW215Xmo_ReaCE2t9fcE5Zmps5pEJ5Xea9QB_bRfVTOJPw3oBJ-4sRFAKRWBTpvcd3FCRkKx_mCqk5/s1600/M6721.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7KJG-Qn74410LDLJqj8dY-RhyphenhyphenBg_jTpkQTZuSy08GqcUl-J43LONo0wzK4M5TS7DW215Xmo_ReaCE2t9fcE5Zmps5pEJ5Xea9QB_bRfVTOJPw3oBJ-4sRFAKRWBTpvcd3FCRkKx_mCqk5/s200/M6721.jpg" width="189" /></a> for my cousin's baby's quilt and I just started my first quilt. I am making a scrap quilt using the instructions from sewtakeahike's "a little help from my friends" <a href="http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/sewtakeahike/2009/10/a-little-help-from-my-friends-string-quilt-tutorial.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a>. <br />
<br />
When I found out that a coworker of mine was pregnant, I got so excited because I have been wanting a reason to make a baby quilt....particularly this one:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp-3umEdEMxMOAh51rUiaAyLNG_oYg5-0Nc-NnD81VTH1_LlJ2n45HME-gCciUgfzf-2FbwMSoSsCe05MGX2wQcYggb07zZ7aqT7HFt7OCputu7HHRK9IDAx4Lg3B9m5iTVDg9tRY9ZSIw/s1600/M6721.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp-3umEdEMxMOAh51rUiaAyLNG_oYg5-0Nc-NnD81VTH1_LlJ2n45HME-gCciUgfzf-2FbwMSoSsCe05MGX2wQcYggb07zZ7aqT7HFt7OCputu7HHRK9IDAx4Lg3B9m5iTVDg9tRY9ZSIw/s320/M6721.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But then my coworker found out she was having a boy. So because I still wanted to make something and could not find any cute boy quilts, I settled on the McCall 6719 bear playmat:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
...and here it is!:</div>

<br />
I couldn't find any medium browns so I ended up making a dark brown bear and using polka dot fleece for contrast. I like the way it came out. Not too bad for my first truly crafty endeavor...<br />
<br />
I hope my coworker likes it....even though she really wanted washcloths and diapers.<br />
<br />
<br />
Since I recently found out that my cousin is pregnant with a girl, I'll get to make the quilt after all!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR81kANJ5wo3arBeK7xfDJNQ5d0mJn3Yd0CWjNSrO_hQnHp35iH6NmTzEAe0iujx-qsykMehCR4mRG8L-g9dDnc9hwF2FL7et_Th_30aYzWGy2-vF1GxNWm7Qq6aa_LzysNGg5maL1I_ar/s1600/20130120_203544.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR81kANJ5wo3arBeK7xfDJNQ5d0mJn3Yd0CWjNSrO_hQnHp35iH6NmTzEAe0iujx-qsykMehCR4mRG8L-g9dDnc9hwF2FL7et_Th_30aYzWGy2-vF1GxNWm7Qq6aa_LzysNGg5maL1I_ar/s320/20130120_203544.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
...and finally found a pattern I thought would work with it:</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJTnsEpz0pYp1jkKJLPd82ErF0n_-hAuqro4wQi9H0aKGBpc3ya1niEbdAF5oWCmfErK41670c2mkcHZmWc0G67BTz-Q69njX1LLTfJt_bMV4zG6i5f-gtsN1IyVX8Gye_hp5wUDS0ae0B/s1600/images.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJTnsEpz0pYp1jkKJLPd82ErF0n_-hAuqro4wQi9H0aKGBpc3ya1niEbdAF5oWCmfErK41670c2mkcHZmWc0G67BTz-Q69njX1LLTfJt_bMV4zG6i5f-gtsN1IyVX8Gye_hp5wUDS0ae0B/s1600/images.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUXE16iK1IDiiCha1T4lKe53f-qcP8-lr8rID4dU4BvcNyaXs0aLLyLPJC6Z4wO8imPsN1L18XeLRaKqpQpgFYemzf0rGhUS0NyqQrk9sKcFa4z4YvI7h0QzI_cxHtnd40QiLYA8sWB_2H/s1600/SDC13945.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUXE16iK1IDiiCha1T4lKe53f-qcP8-lr8rID4dU4BvcNyaXs0aLLyLPJC6Z4wO8imPsN1L18XeLRaKqpQpgFYemzf0rGhUS0NyqQrk9sKcFa4z4YvI7h0QzI_cxHtnd40QiLYA8sWB_2H/s320/SDC13945.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Immediately, I thought of New Year's Eve. I wanted something comfortable and cute, but not too fancy so I decided on Burda 7148 view B:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyMdXyyRXMVaD2xR8a_qO2630EEB6sgmysWxHt4Pqz4pIhARufpnSsUeEqa4CLlu8efpZ9bkK2OUoOHjQFjVAZFlNy1I8LmbDKrTbeBn1Rn_O1w4BHVYZR80kbUKVnpNfciAP9XdH7V37x/s1600/7148.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyMdXyyRXMVaD2xR8a_qO2630EEB6sgmysWxHt4Pqz4pIhARufpnSsUeEqa4CLlu8efpZ9bkK2OUoOHjQFjVAZFlNy1I8LmbDKrTbeBn1Rn_O1w4BHVYZR80kbUKVnpNfciAP9XdH7V37x/s320/7148.jpg" width="207" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's my version (disregard my awkward smile):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQOhdXYFFsGCkWwIMdkUEey-ePrbTBCXbXcDRtyAkyaBS0pvmap4jpZf86xP6ncjb_bE9Jp4O4phInuaukMKFCJntndZtFxkFFUAvwOHGBsGG23QbyUXPwImZz6h6RU4XG5K0AR18U3m4/s1600/20121231_154201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQOhdXYFFsGCkWwIMdkUEey-ePrbTBCXbXcDRtyAkyaBS0pvmap4jpZf86xP6ncjb_bE9Jp4O4phInuaukMKFCJntndZtFxkFFUAvwOHGBsGG23QbyUXPwImZz6h6RU4XG5K0AR18U3m4/s320/20121231_154201.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The neckline is kind of a mess. It's too big for a crew neck and too small for off the shoulder:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I wasn't planning on making anything Christmasy for the home this year, but then I found this beautiful sparkly poinsettia fabric and Joanne's and changed my mind. I decided to make placemats and matching napkins. I used McCall's 5439 for the placemats (which is really just a circle) and followed <a href="http://imadethis-asewingblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-tree-napkin-this-is-very.html" target="_blank">these instructions</a> for the napkins. <br />
<br />

With the leftover fabric, I decided to make an apron for a coworker's mom...she bakes something delicious for us almost weekly so I figured she'd appreciate an apron. (My mom is modeling it below.)</div>

To my surprise, I actually finished my four pieces on time, and here they are:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS39bWLlQv47yVgye0mGIQZeXTpoMw35844okrcAMXrenhtSx_SoO4tSQS3zpJE3dYXhO1t3tI-7bBSEyVHktmjkKnfKBnnFvC2wAD97C_OguyyCh8A2_s_LHhxB5olGeBxAtepYJzXk1b/s1600/Finished.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS39bWLlQv47yVgye0mGIQZeXTpoMw35844okrcAMXrenhtSx_SoO4tSQS3zpJE3dYXhO1t3tI-7bBSEyVHktmjkKnfKBnnFvC2wAD97C_OguyyCh8A2_s_LHhxB5olGeBxAtepYJzXk1b/s320/Finished.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I had to change my key item to a different cardigan, because the other one didn't really go with the Vogue dress. New key item:<br />

I was originally going to do Collette's Sorbetto, but saw this and thought I would make both because I just had to make this top immediately. Because of all the issues with this one, I'm going to rest for the rest of the day instead of doing the Sorbetto. I'm really inspired and would love to enter, but given the fact that I've lost half the month, I don't know that I'll make the cut off. However, I'm going to participate anyway....even if I don't end up entering the contest. <br />
<br />
So with that, here's my storyboard:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMsPX2urdVCAS54vlFBLnv-h-O52vuv1ue8EtXRuFkaAjasPxxPqF_5O6fxSaEsE5l2ZUh5luUmlc5BB10R_nSK4O74aTLPrNwaVWghmsAZKutHPLJFwsSiBx87aw7g5huhLnD0gVOf08X/s1600/Blend.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMsPX2urdVCAS54vlFBLnv-h-O52vuv1ue8EtXRuFkaAjasPxxPqF_5O6fxSaEsE5l2ZUh5luUmlc5BB10R_nSK4O74aTLPrNwaVWghmsAZKutHPLJFwsSiBx87aw7g5huhLnD0gVOf08X/s320/Blend.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The center picture is my key item and is my favorite cardigan I purchased years ago from Forever 21. Starting from top left going clockwise, I plan to make:<br />
<br />
1. Butterick 5693 using mustard colored linen<br />
<br />

I'm most excited to make the Vogue dress!.....aijuswannasewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10651246883033469951noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3103581942668124039.post-22490985796014493802012-08-18T10:28:00.000-04:002012-08-18T10:28:06.187-04:00McCall's 6118This is another project I started many months ago (I used the left over scraps as the lining for my graduation dress in May) and just finally completed. Not really much to say about it, except that it's very easy and really cute.<br />

(please excuse my dirty mirror)</div>
I do think it may run a little big. I think the top band is too loose. I took it in a little more than 1/4 inch, but it's still slack. I could probably take it in another 1/2 inch, but I'm just going to leave it. Next time, I'll cut the band a size down. Also, I cut about a 3/4 inch off the bottom because the top is a little longer than I wanted.<br />
<br />
When I first saw this fabric, I wasn't sure about it, but then I couldn't stop thinking about it. Now, I think it's gorg!<br />

Conclusion: I love this top!aijuswannasewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10651246883033469951noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3103581942668124039.post-48567561070240014472012-08-17T23:05:00.000-04:002012-08-18T03:30:00.772-04:00White Party Earlier this summer, a friend of mine threw an all white beach party to celebrate her 30th. Of course I decided to make my outfit. I chose McCall's 6560:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxO5USHBO1ddy9N4aJVV5gpFcLPLo-xp10u9dttWvuF3rmxQjE1MGq_QeMVVk7GnSs9joDrmjsA879JCgLOvnzug6kDwDGLbZbqVMhdLXYhgQJm425mEgEwfbGWuMQj6xCn_GgbAYuYSY7/s1600/M6560.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxO5USHBO1ddy9N4aJVV5gpFcLPLo-xp10u9dttWvuF3rmxQjE1MGq_QeMVVk7GnSs9joDrmjsA879JCgLOvnzug6kDwDGLbZbqVMhdLXYhgQJm425mEgEwfbGWuMQj6xCn_GgbAYuYSY7/s200/M6560.jpg" width="189" /></a></div>

Initially, I was going to do the full dress option, but I wasn't paying attention when I purchased the eyelet and only bought enough to make a top. Because the fabric was so expensive, I decided to make a skirt as well in a different fabric. As it got closer to the party, I realized I did not have enough time to make the skirt (I was also making a wrap dress for the birthday girl) and purchased a white denim skirt from Old Navy instead. As a plan B, I found a dress at Ross for $8 at the last minute. <br />
<br />
Here is my top:<br />

<br />
It it way too low cut for my taste. The picture doesn't do it justice...I feel really exposed, even vulgar wearing it. I think you can see a little better how low cut it is in the pic with the camisole under it.<br />
<br />
Here is the back:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The bottom of the back is really weird. Admittedly, I didn't consult the directions before hemming (and I still haven't gone back to look at them), but the back looks terrible. It bubbles out awkwardly and looks like I am with child, but carrying it in my back (sorry I don't have a picture of it on from the back). I think I should have left the two back sides separate, basically leaving a split under the zipper instead of sewing them together and then hemming them. I might still take it apart and do that...not looking forward to it though because I've learned that having to take apart eyelet is a bit difficult.<br />
<br />
I ended up going with the dress from Ross.<br />
